Thu, Jul. 19th, 2007, 02:37 pm ah, packages
I was probably a little ruder to the poor woman than I should have been, at first . . . I called UPS because their tracking thingie said that I'd requested to pick up my package -- not true. I don't even know where to go to pick the damn thing up. So I talked to a machine for a while -- not kidding. It asked me questions, and I had to answer vocally. Creepy. Then, after a while, I got frustrated and yelled "I WANT TO TALK TO A PERSON!" Then the machine asked me if I wanted it to connect me to an agent. I said "yes." Then I explained to some poor woman in very terse terms that UPS did something I didn't want them to do and could they please just send the 1.6 pound package to my apartment, please. Then the woman apologized that UPS did something against my request and fixed it for me. I hope I didn't make her day too much worse. Done with physics. Did I understand it? Not most of it. I got the second part of the last problem -- it was just a matter of adding up the work. So if the force of friction is (.5mgv0^2)/x1, then the force of friction is [(.5mgv0^2)/x1](x2-x1). And then add that to the work done by the person pushing the box. *shrug* Circular motion hates me. Do I go to Lyondemere Anniv? Do I drive down Friday or Saturday? Someone make a decision for me, please.
I overslept. Hope that doesn't bode at all for how the rest of my day goes. Physics from 9:30, indefinitely onward. 6 problems. All hard. I got into armor last night! Joyce's knee kept poking me in the shin, and then I had to walk into Randy's greatsword. At least it didn't keep bothering me for the rest of the night. My shoulder bugged me at first, but then it loosened up. I need to work on that whole warm-up thing. But I did exactly what I was supposed to, even with a helmet that didn't like my head and an attempt at a replacement helmet that pushed my eyebrows down over my eyes. Solution: get your own armor, you lazy n00b. But the point is, I got into armor and did not die and want to do it again. Even with Geoff (our physical therapist) saying to Ed yesterday that he was so glad I wasn't doing this heavies thing . . . don't tell. Progesterone SHOULD BE progesterone. There is no reason why our molecular technology should not be able to replicate one simple hormone. And it IS simple compared to the other crap people make. So why is the "natural" version supposedly different from the medical version? And if it is different, what is it about the molecule that's different? If it's anything other than the active sites, does it matter? If the active sites are the same, the molecule is effectively progesterone. Unless our bodies are somehow smarter than that. Going over to Sean and Alex's place for Alex's bday tonight. Happy bday, Alex! Huzzah! I feel that if I sang him the Viking birthday song, he would be slightly disturbed. It's so weird having two such different groups of friends that consider such different things "normal". Oh well. Time to get my ass up off the floor or I'll never get to Physics.

Thu, Apr. 19th, 2007, 11:07 am Archer of God
I want to spend more of my time arching and less of it doing schoolwork. Bad for my career. Good for my right brain. I need to find a large field in which I can set up an Isles practice. It would be better to either (1) go through UCSB archery, which may possibly be reinstated or (2) to find a field off campus so I don't have to go through the bureaucracy of the university to allow a live weapons practice on their campus. Once I get a place, I need hay bales and archers to come to my practice. Oh, and a Range Marshall auth. Who's interested in archery? I should be reading bioarch/doing math homework/taking spec data, but today is NOT a good day for this and Loren knows that. Silly man. I called him and he didn't call back. Silly man. Is it odd that I want to spend all my time in Lompoc? It's supposed to be hickville, but I'm finding I like it a lot. Damn the hour-long drive. Peace.
Sun, Mar. 11th, 2007, 08:00 pm authorized!
I got authorized today! Hooray! It wasn't scary at all. Sarah's auth story was all intimidating and then mine was all easy and no big deal. It was an open-book written test. I only got one wrong on that, so sweet. Then Steve and Karl interrogated me about how to check a bow and arrows and all the parts of said items. Then I had to shoot a Royal Round because Steve is evil (I technically only had to shoot a round at the 20 yard target and then a speed round). I did really badly! Hooray! Then Steve asked me how to spell my name (Bébhinn Śotal) and gave me the (not actually) shiny yellow card. I'm authorized! I'm going to the Robin Hood shoot on Sunday. yay! Hooray for ass-crack of dawn event! Peace.
Wed, Feb. 28th, 2007, 12:26 pm NAME!
I figured out how to make my name feminine! Sotal means "the arrogant" (for a man). In Gaelic, if you want to make a word feminine, you "lenite" it. For the sound "S" at the beginning of a word, that means you change it to either "F" (with a dot over it) or "Sh" and pronounce the sound "h". Hooray! So now I have to figure out whether I want to be Bébhinn F.otal or Bébhinn Shotal. In writing, the former looks better. I need to figure out how to type that in Word. There's a Ġ in Word (G.) Oh well. I'll figure it out. Yay! I can submit my name! Thank the Lord and Lady and Pallas Athena. Woot!
Don't you love it when they have girlfriends? Piss. Anyway, I'm supposed to be writing a couple of equations in matrix-vector form, but they don't look like the problems in the book. They don't even have the right number of terms to put the coefficients into the spaces provided. How am I supposed to do that? At least I figured out matrix transposition and dot-products on my own. And matrix multiplication isn't hard, it's just tedious. *shrug* Dinner with Edward tonight! Hooray! I'm excited. Go to section, food, then hang out until 1:30 in the morning! And I can't wait for the Hunt. I don't think my finals are going to be that much of a problem, other than the fact that math has been eating my face for 7 weeks. Maybe the final will be better. Maybe the midterm will be curved. So after the finals comes the Hunt! I'm gonna shoot something. I wish I could shoot someone in the face, but a novelty shoot is just fine. Does it sound like I'm actually planning on harming someone? Kinda. For the cops who probably aren't patrolling LJ: I'm not actually going to hurt anyone. I'm an archer. I want to be a heavy archer. No one gets hurt. I need a bow. And arrows. I like 4-fletched arrows. They make me happy in the speed rounds. I think it's time to go to section. I don't wanna go. Grr. Time to go. Up. Up. Peace.
Can anyone give me a word that rhymes with the word "scarves"? Whoever gives the best one gets a cookie!
Sooo. Finally updating and all that. I hope I do ok on my midterm on Monday. I'm behind in that class and only have the weekend to catch up. Grr. I don't like class right now. I think I'd rather just go to SCA events all the time. I like the Known World better than Mundania. I just took a look at the Known World map and realized that there are vast tracts of land that are rather wild and owe allegiance to no king or queen. Caid is very small compared to all of the other kingdoms in North America. Hrm. If we're so small, how do we kick so much ass? Going to eat breakfast. I will not worry about math. I will not worry. Peace.
My phone got run over by a car. The jerk didn't even stop when I chased after them screaming and swearing. I have a new phone and I need everyone's numbers. Piss. Good news: I'm going diving. Coo. I'm still feeling stressed. Things to do: 1. Read A Book of Showings. 2. Write a response to it. 3. Take my Lit midterm. 4. Do math set 6. 5. Do math set 7. 6. Make Alessy a scabbard. 7. Pack for Estrella last minute on Wednesday. 8. Go to Estrella. 9. Eat a lot. 10. Shoot a bow and arrow. Hopefully more than one arrow. 11. Have Sarah drunk-dial someone from Arizona. 12. Play guitar right perdy. 13. Be True's biatch and run around backstage. 14. Come back and go to class 4 hours later (I have an 8 am on Tuesday). 15. Take a midterm on Thursday. 16. Math set 8. 17. Study for Sensory midterm. 18. Take midterm. 19. Read all about sound. 20. Collapse. Hooray!
Today, Sarah dropped her toothpaste. And she magically caught it and placed it back on the little shelf where it belongs. Huzzah! |
